How do you feel after a long and hectic day at work? Don’t you feel tired? Physically and emotionally drained? Low? Well, I certainly do. In fact, it goes for most people out there.

Workplaces bring along lots of anxiety and stress. It’s natural to feel anxious sometimes, but what if the problem recurs? Let me rephrase it, what do you do when anxiety hits you at work? How do you manage to calm yourself?

I have a full-time job along with parents and pets to look after; thus, anxiety is a common part of my life. It’s sad but true. Yes, it’s not comfortable to stay anxious for a good part of the day; thereby, I keep looking for ways to unwind my mind and body.

The goal is to relax your mind and body, isn’t it? What could be better than exercise when speaking of de-stressing the mind and body? It doesn’t necessarily need to be a hardcore workout session, even a few minutes of walking in nature can do the trick.

Regular exercise increases the endorphin level in the bloodstream. As a result, it relieves stress and uplifts your mood. Needless to say, anxiety comes with a low mood and restlessness, so exercise is something to try.

Besides that, there are other benefits of exercise that you can enjoy. It can help you maintain a healthy weight by regulating your metabolism and burning those extra layers of fat. Henceforth, it’s one thing you MUST add to your everyday routine to manage workplace stress.

Body Stretching 

You can call it a part of the exercise! Body stretching has lots and lots of benefits. What’s yoga? Have you ever tried it? Yoga poses are all about body stretching. I’m sure you’re aware of the fact that yoga is exceptionally beneficial for the management of anxiety and stress.

It is precisely why I recommend regular body stretching to everyone. It’s an instant treatment option. For example, in case you feel anxious at work, simply stand up and perform a few body stretches. With a little stretching, you’ll see an instant difference in your mood. You have my word.

As mentioned in a journal by Harvard Health Publishing, body stretching and aerobics are two great ways to keep anxiety and stress at bay. Body stretching is super easy and convenient. If you don’t know enough about it, you can always look for online tutorials. I’m certain you’ll find many of them.

Body Massage 

There are numerous health benefits of body massage. It doesn’t only help physically, but it brings along certain psychological benefits as well. The intense strokes of massage work well against anxiety and stress. They can help relieve muscle tension, too.

I remember reading a study by the NCBI, where they performed a massage experiment on several nurses. No wonder, nursing is a pretty stressful job. Working in day and night shifts puts a different kind of stress on your mind.

In the study, they concluded that nurses who received regular sessions of body massage reported significantly less anxiety and stress. The best part being, you don’t really need to hire a masseuse in order to take a body massage. You can buy a massage chair for your home, and enjoy similar benefits at a pocket-friendly cost.

Ditch the Coffee 

One of the most popular things in offices these days is coffee. I reckon that having a cup of freshly brewed coffee is refreshing in the morning, afternoon, and evening at work, but what about the side effects that caffeine brings to the table?

It may sound surprising, but caffeine actually causes deep down anxiety. It isn’t as health-friendly as you think of it. Not just coffee, tea is also loaded with caffeine. Therefore, you must cut back on tea and coffee.

Although the caffeine tolerance level varies from person to person, it’s safe not to exceed more than one cup of coffee/tea. Other than that, if you feel jiggly after having any of the two, it’s a clear indication that the caffeine is not working well for you.

All you need to do is observe the red flags whenever eating or drinking anything, and you’ll be good to go. I hope it isn’t too much to practice?

There’s nothing more important than your mental health. Workplace anxiety is something that you must take seriously as it pinpoints a toxic environment. You may not be able to exit the place once and for all, but following the tips and tricks I’ve mentioned above, you can take control of the situation.

Apart from the recommended tips, you can also try deep breathing exercise whenever feeling restless or agitated at work. It is another thing that can immediately calm you down.
